Benefits:Â
There are many benefits to Swedish massage. The physical benefits include healing muscle tension, eliminating toxins, and giving the client a new and improved range of motion. Emotional benefits are relaxation, stress reduction, improved overall well being, and emotional release. Massage also engages the parasympathetic nervous system which will help the client to help their own body even after the massage has ended.Â
Â
Details:
Swedish massage takes place on a table with the client undressed to their comfort level and properly, safely, and professionally draped under a sheet. Oil or lotion is applied to the skin to allow gliding over the skin. Swedish massage utilizes strokes such as effleurage, petrissage, friction, vibration, and tapotement. Effleurage introduces the therapist’s touch and spreads lotion over the body. This skimming stroke stimulates blood flow throughout the client. Petrissage is applied to knead and warm up the tissue which prepares for deeper work. The Friction stroke uses small circles or crossing movements to work the muscle tissue and stimulate circulation while helping to heal any scar tissue. For Vibration, the therapist send a trembling through their own hands to stimulate nerve activity and internal organs. The last Swedish stroke is Tapotement. It is a drumming motion applied to the area in order to tone muscle and soften tissue. It can also be used as the final stroke to wake up the client or prepare them for a transition.
Benefits:Â
Shiatsu has many benefits to be considered. There is an increase of energy while also relaxing the client during the session. By working different meridians, the client's energy can be rebalanced. Blockages, tension, and muscle pain can be worked out and be decreased as well by holding points on the muscle.Â
Â
Details:
Shiatsu is a form of Massage that developed in Japan in the early 20th century. It is based on many practices from Traditional Chinese Medicine. Shiatsu can be used as an acupuncture practice by working specific points in the body. Massage is done using a mat on the floor that is covered by a sheet. Shiatsu can also be done on a table or seated on a chair depending on the client's and therapist's preference. Clients are fully clothed and should wear loose fitting clothes that allows for stretches. There is no oil or lotion used. Strokes used in shiatsu are done following the flow of the meridians. A meridian is the pathway that energy takes throughout the body. The session starts with the therapist grounding in and connecting with the client's energy. Softening using open palms, soft fists, or other variations are done in order to warm up and prepare the tissue for deeper work. Point work is done with the tips of thumbs pushing into different areas of the body that will affect ways the clients energy flows. Stretches and joint mobilization is done to increase the range of motion.
Deep Tissue is used on specific tension. This work is done similarly to Swedish but is much better suited to work on knots and tension as it is slower, deeper, and utilizes more focused pressure. Some clients may worry about pain from deep tissue but this should not be a concern because the pressure scale is specified entirely to your needs.
Myofascial Therapy is very specified work that concentrates on your exact issues. Before the appointment an assessment will be done in order to find areas of decreased Range of Motion and any Postural Deviations. Myofascial Therapy caters directly to your needs to locate pain and tension and then works in a slow and specific manner to increase Range of Motion and decrease tension throughout the body. Work is done without use of oil or lotion in order to make small and precise movements on the muscles.Â
Lymphatic Massage is very beneficial to sprains and strains as it reduces swelling and bruising. This massage promotes lymphatic drainage which creates detoxification of the body. This type of massage is very slow and light work.
